Brendan and Isabella Mosca were ten days into a trip Isabella had planned down to the last detail: Lake Como, Tuscany wine country, and Florence. What Isabella did not know was that Brendan had a plan of his own, set for their very first evening in Bellagio.
The day began with a walk through town, a private sunset boat ride on the lake still to come. Brendan already knew this was the place. He had lined up a photographer, scouted the exact spot, and now just had to get Isabella from the shops down to the waterfront, which, as anyone who has tried to pull a partner away from shopping in an Italian lake town can tell you, is easier said than done.
He managed it. There at the water's edge, in the middle of what felt like a sea of tourists, Brendan got down on one knee. To this day he cannot remember a single word he said, or whether he said anything at all. Isabella more than made up for it: "Oh my god, oh my god, Brendan Patrick Stone, no way."
Then came the yes. Then the photos. Then, because this is Italy, the gelato. And after that, the celebration really began.
