How Chris Moyer carried a secret ring to the bottom of the world to propose to Leah Pugh.
Some couples get engaged close to home. Chris Moyer had somewhere a little more remote in mind: Antarctica.
This past February, Chris and his now-fiancée Leah Pugh set off on an Antarctic cruise, the kind of trip most people only ever dream about. On the very first island they visited, Danco Island, Chris got down on one knee. Around them stood towering glaciers, snow-covered mountains, and sparkling ice that stretched as far as they could see. Snowflakes drifted through the crisp Antarctic air, and curious penguins waddled right past, as if they had come to watch.
"My fiancée was completely surprised and had no idea what was about to happen," Chris said. In one of the most breathtaking places on Earth, the two of them began the next chapter of their lives together.
Getting to that moment took some serious planning. Long before the trip, Chris had the ring shipped from House of Milner without Leah suspecting a thing. Then came the hard part: keeping it hidden through every leg of a once-in-a-lifetime journey, all the way to the Antarctic Peninsula. "Keeping such a big secret during a once-in-a-lifetime trip made the proposal even more rewarding," he said, "when I finally got down on one knee and saw the look of complete surprise on her face."
